COVID19 Property Adjustments for Residential Property
Cook County Assessor announced back in April that most properties will receive COVID19 adjustments to the 2020 property values. These reductions were granted based on local unemployment. The median adjustment was 10% and neighborhoods with larger increases in unemployment had larger adjustments. Maine Township COVID19 letters have not yet been released by the Cook County Assessor. We are hopeful that the letters will be released in December. All adjustments will impact the 2020 second installment property tax bill due in 2021.
2020 Cook County Assessor’s Appeal Decisions Certified on 11/5/2020
If Maine Township residents filed a 2020 appeal with the Cook County Assessor, result letters should be mailed the week of November 16, 2020. Due to the change in deadlines, there will not be a 2020 re-review. Residents will have an opportunity to file an appeal to the Cook County Board of Review. We expect to open soon for 2020 appeals to the Board of Review.
2020 Board of Review, Getting Ready to Open for Appeals Soon
While we do not yet have an official open date, we wanted to let you know that due to COVID19, all appeals will be done when requested by the taxpayer by calling our office at 224-257-4830. We will then file the appeal on your behalf. Please be advised, taxpayers must be the owner, former owner liable for the tax, beneficiary of the trust or an executor of the property in order to file an appeal. Once we have processed the appeal, we will mail you the confirmation.
If a resident prefers to file their own appeal, our office will provide you with comparable properties that can be uploaded to www.cookcountyboardofreview.com. Results from The Board of Review will be mailed directly to the appellant in Spring 2021. Any reductions will be reflected on the 2020 second installment tax bill. The Cook County Board of Review is closed for all in person access to the public due to COVID19, therefore the procedure for hearings has changed. As of today, the Cook County Board of Review informed us that hearings will be held over the telephone.
